Faces of the Florizel - 100th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibit

On February 23rd, 1918 the SS Florizel left St. John's on an ill-fated journey. What was supposed to be a routine trip from St. John's to Halifax and then to New York ended in tragedy and 93 souls were lost, 44 survived. The HM Wireless Station Mount Pearl, the current site of Admiralty House Communications Museum, received the SOS transmission for help from the vessel.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the loss of the SS Florizel and Admiralty House Communications Museum is commemorating this tragic event in our province's history with the creation of a new exhibit titled "Faces of the Florizel." This commemorative exhibit features memories of family members, oral histories, and artifacts from the individuals connected to the shipwreck. The exhibit will be on display at the Annex, which is located next door to Admiralty House, between February 24 to June 29, 2018.

This exhibit is funded in part by the City of Mount Pearl as well as Newfoundland and Labrador's Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation.
